Nikki grew up on a farm in the Yarra Valley, east of Melbourne, Australia, with a father who loved growing veggies and a collection of farm animals, including cows, goats, chickens, dogs and more.
Paul grew up in northern rural Victoria, near Echuca, on a 8-acre farm, surrounded by dairy cows, orchards and plenty of space.
Since then, we’ve lived in much more suburban places, but we’ve always found a patch of dirt to grow some food, and in our most recent house, in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, we’ve converted the entire front yard to a veggie patch.
There’s nothing better than eating a meal mostly grown in our garden! Maybe one day we’ll move back to a farm, but for now we love finding new and creative ways to be self-sufficient, and turn our house into a homestead.
Come with us on our suburban homesteading journey.
